 | | Database Uploads | In addition to allowing us to add and edit products individually, the Yahoo
Store Editor also allows us to add and edit products via the use of a Database
Upload.
Here is Yahoo's documentation regarding uploading database files. This is highly
recommended reading!
http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/store/edit/advanced/advanced-18.html
Before we go any further... NEVER CLICK REBUILD.ALWAYS CLICK ADD AFTER UPLOADING
A FILE TO YOUR STORE! Clicking REBUILD can delete items and sections of your
store.
Here is the basic information that you will need to put your products into your
store using a database upload.
Database Upload Information
Path:
The path is the section that you want your item placed in. For instance, if you
wanted a section called Shirts the path would be Shirts. If you wanted to have a
sub category like men, the path would be Shirts:Men If you are creating a new
store or new sections, you can use the name of the new section in the Path
field. If the section where you want products to go to already exsists, use the
ID of the page that you will be placing the items into.
ID:
This is the url of the actual page, the part that comes before .html
For example, the ID of this page http://www.1choice4yourstore.com/comparison-chart.html
would be comparison-chart. When building a product database, the ID does not
have to be filled in but it is beneficial to do so for search engine
optimization. If you had a product called mans shirt the id would be mans-shirt
as you are not allowed to have spaces in your url or other characters except for
numbers and letters. If you do leave this field blank, Yahoo will come up with
the id of the page and quite often they are abbreviated. For instance Gift
Certificates is turned into gice.html. It would be best if the url ended with
gift-certificates.html, these are actual keywords in the url.
Name:
This is a name of the product that you are selling.
Code:
This is not a required field. However, this is an excellent way to track your products. This normally a SKU, Product Number, or your own number to identify the product. As an example, you may be selling shirts but they come in many different colors. Your Blue Shirts can be coded BS-001, Red Shirt can be coded RS-001, Yellow Shirt can be coded YS-001, and so on.
Caption:
This is where you will put the item description. Also known as the sales pitch.
Example: This Hawaiian shirt is made with etc etc etc etc
Options:
This is where you will put information on the different sizes or colors
available.
Color Blue Red “Light Blue” Notice light blue is in quotes. This is so Yahoo
knows it is one word and not two. If you did not have the quotes are light blue,
it would think that light is one color option and blue is a second option.
Price:
Do not use $ sign.
Sale-price:
Do not put $ sign.
Product-url:
The product URL will be http://www.YOURURL.com/IDOFPAGE.html Replace YOURURL
with the URL of your store Replace IDOFPAGE with the ID you are using in the ID
Column If you are familiar with excel, there is an easy way to accomplish the
product URLs In the Product-url cell, put the following command:
=CONCATENATE("http://www.YOUR-URL.com/",a2,".html")
Put that into the Product-url column while replacing YOUR-URL with your site's
actual URL. Now click enter Then copy and paste this command into the rest of
the cells in the Product-url that have products. Now highlight the entire
Product-url column. Control C to copy > then Right Click > Paste SPECIAL > click
Value
If you are not familiar with Excel this may seem a little complicated. Send the
file to us, we can do it for you. It only takes us a quick minute.
IMAGES:
We can upload you images to your store items and section pages. In order for us
to do an image upload, all image names must match the ID of the product. So for
mens-shirts the image name will be mens-shirts.jpg or mens-shirts.gif
Once all images are done this way, zip all of them together. Then we will click
on Config in your store editor. Then click on Multiple Image Upload. Then click
on browse to locate the zip file and upload. If you have a lot of products this
will take some time for Yahoo to unzip your file and place all the images on the
item pages matching them together.
