I had the pleasure of interviewing John Lawson, AKA ColderICE, on our new radio show
Ecom Experts. He shared many pearls of
wisdom including this wonderful phrase, "My short term investments pay
for my long term investments and my long term investments pay me." LOVED
IT!!
The interview all started because I saw
John on a national commercial for American Express. I got all excited
and wanted to know, how the heck he did that!
Our conversation led
into how he became successful online. I love when people share REAL stories
of their success. I get so upset when I see scam artists telling people how
they made $30,000 their first month by opening an online store and YOU CAN
TOO!
Wrong.
They
are just there to take your money.
The majority of people starting online may not
see sales right away. When I first started out, I only had 1 sale my first
month. Then I learned about pay per click marketing and search engine
optimization. Slowly those sales picked up and eventually I was selling over
$100,000 a month.
But it did not happen overnight. As John Lawson
said during our interview, "We live in a microwave society and we think
that things should pop up overnight. That never happens. It's a fantasy they
sell in hotel ballrooms."
These are the same scam
artists that Chris Malta, Founder and CEO of WorldWide Brands, warned us about during his scam busting tour.
During one video, he tells us that
98% of these online
internet marketing websites are scams.
Basically they take one or
two classes, think they are the next "guru," and charge people to come to
their local seminar for $50 - $150 on up. You can always tell who
these guys are. Their websites don't rank for any real major key search
terms and they convince people they are the best by ranking for
search terms
nobody is looking for.
Your 5 year old can rank in the top 10 of
Google for a search phrase with no competition. Just tell them to shoot a
video or write a blog post. Bham... Top 10 Ranking in less than
24 hours.
There ya go. I just taught you everything they charge you
for *laughing*A lot of times you can tell these guys are crooks just
by looking at their website copy. It is usually duplicated content. This is
the number one rule of internet marketing and they break it by copying
someone else's website.
Stay far away from these idiots. They are
only around to steal your money. Chris Malta does a great job talking about
some of the
scams used during the hotel ballroom seminars.
Nobody will get
you $30,000 in sales overnight. Nobody will get you #1 rankings overnight
for relevant key search phrases that real people are looking for.
Like Chris Malta explains, making money online is just like making money anywhere else. It takes an investment of time, learning, and using the proper
tools. IT CAN BE DONE. But it will not be done overnight.
